Estética de la Velocidad , 2026 / solo show selection . Galeria 1712
Speed is not merely a physical quantity; it is an aesthetic force that alters perception, wears down matter, and transforms everyday objects into fetishes of performance and power. In this solo exhibition, Felipe Achondo explores that ambiguous boundary where the precision of automotive engineering collides with the visceral nature of painting.
Through his approach, Achondo transforms the canvas into a field of friction. His works, laden with layers, stains, brushstrokes, and vertical drips, emulate the residue of asphalt, grease, and oil from mechanics. The machines portrayed lose their catalog pristine appearance; under the artist's touch, the vehicles bleed, deconstruct, and dissolve, capturing the raw energy of movement rather than their static representation.
This formal investigation spills three-dimensionally into the gallery space. By intervening with real mechanical components, the artist negates the object's utilitarian function, transforming it into a contemporary totem. The human figure, when it appears, does so in a fragmented and depersonalized way, suggesting a constant tension between human control and the entropy of the machine. Aesthetics of Speed is a raw immersion into the archaeology of the engine. In contrast to the commercial gaze that idolizes pristine beauty, Felipe Achondo presents us with the soul of the machine in its most honest, dangerous, and material state.
